Walkthrough 5: Machine Tower

Machine Tower is a tower you climb and descend on moving platforms, with constant jumping. Many flying enemies and attacks along the way can easily knock you back, so advance carefully.

Attacks

AttackPowerElementStatus ailment
Contact290Stone—
Earthquake
When Nathan is far away, it pounds the ground after 3 steps (2 when powered up). Anyone on the ground takes damage regardless of distance; the shock only lasts the instant of the pound, so jump to avoid it.
230——
Gears
Each earthquake drops 5 random gears (7 when powered up) out of the 11 on the ceiling. A gear about to fall flashes red and shakes for about 1 s, then drops and bounces sideways once on landing. They can be destroyed; Ice Ball Circle or Poison Cloud is recommended for defense.
250——
Punch
Likely used when Nathan is very close. Powered up, it punches from farther away. Strong but telegraphed; jump to dodge. Getting hit knocks you down.
320Stone—
Light Shot
Fired along with the punch when powered up. Always explodes about 40% of the screen width in front of it; the explosion lasts under 1 s. Just avoid landing on that spot after a jump.

Strategy

  • Recommended sub-weapon: Holy Water or Crucifix.
  • For DSS, use Ice Ball Circle or Poison Cloud to block the falling gears; without them, use an attack boost.
  • When Nathan is very close, it picks at random: 3/4 chance of a punch, 1/4 chance of an earthquake.
  • After walking for a while (walking time only, about 4–8 s) it stops, glows and powers up; after about 3–6 s more of walking it reverts. The durations are random within these ranges.
  • When powered up, after each punch or earthquake it releases 11 light orbs that heal it 5 HP each, 55 HP in total (up to its max HP). Finish it quickly.
  • Before the boss, you can level up in the hidden room at the top of the Machine Tower; it has a Crucifix and a save point nearby.
